Hope for me Yet
Friday, January 26, 2007 @ 12:08 AM

This woman does remarkable work using techniques called HDR and Orton processing (and, I suspect, a variety of other methods as well). Though they're photographs, they have the atmosphere, resonance and power of paintings. Well, they look like paintings, IMO.

It gives me hope that even if I never end up developing my ability to draw, I might manage to do stuff in the visual arts all the same. I do have plans, once my desk clears a little, of working through a few books on how to use Photoshop. Then, even if I don't manage to draw or paint well, I might still be able to produce remarkable imagery with photos I've taken, worked with and transformed into altogether different works of art.

It's exciting to be given that hope, in an arena where I had pretty much decided I was not likely to get anywhere. Maybe some day I'll be able to call myself a visual artist of sorts as well, thanks to digital technologies! :-)

O for a muse of fire indeed!
Wednesday, January 24, 2007 @ 10:30 PM

Well, I managed about 2500 words today and got up to page 70/85 (in this document. The other document--consisting of the first half--is ~120 pages or so, single spaced, since then more fits on the screen). So, hopefully this will be the final stretch. ETD Saturday, with any luck? Finish it off tomorrow, reread tomorrow evening and Friday. Print, and mail.

Sounds so simple. Even without logistical errors (printer problems etc.), it rarely seems to end up being so simple as all that.

Alas. But I'll be so thrilled to be done. And if I finish by the weekend and am free into next week to pack and prepare--what bliss indeed! Fingers crossed. O for a muse of fire--and one of earth, air and water besides. They'd all be of considerable assistance, I suspect, in this particular undertaking.

Don't fail me now, ladies. And next week, we'll go off on a fabulous, fun-filled, wellspring replenishing holiday (as a last resort, attempting to bribe one's muses is always an interesting option).

Warming up for the final stretch...
@ 10:50 AM

Or at least, I hope it's the final stretch. Or something close to it. I'm in the final ~25 pages or so of the book. I have lots of scenes I'll need to write for this final bit, and I hope I'm up for doing a number of them today. Then Thursday, I can do the last of it and also do a read-through. Friday, print and mail.

And yet it rarely seems as simple as this, alas. Fingers crossed. I may report back later.

Setting up a custom blog...
Friday, January 19, 2007 @ 10:46 AM

Well, I've been working on that for the last little while. For now, I think I am satisfied with what I have, though I shall likely customise my other ones over time as well. :-)

Cool stuff. I like this skin.

I am also going to test posting a photo to see if it works.
